The plan today was up early and quick march down the hill with Marianne back to Busti where we would pick up a bus that would take Marianne back to Ktm and we would get off at Charikot to buy some IT bits and pieces and make our way back up this afternoon. We made good time down to Busti despite the ground being quite slippery and Drew and Marianne ending up on their bums at least once.
We reached the bus stop at 7.30 and waited there for what were meant to be a handful of buses between then and 8.30 but none materialised. Eventually, someone told us that there were no buses because of a strike. Marianne took this in her stride and headed off to hopefully catch a lift on a truck to at least Charikot, if not KTM. We, on the other hand, did an about turn and started the climb up the hill.
We had planned to top up water in Charikot but were obviously unable to do this, so for the second time in a few days we found ourselves walking for several hours in considerable heat and humidity and getting thirstier by the minute. Luckily our bags were a lot less heavy this time and we rewarded ourselves with a very pleasant break by a river, where Heather discovered a natural foot spa where we could cool down and let our sweaty clothes dry out... unfortunately, this was before the main climb.
We will try again in a few days time and come up with a plan not to be caught out by the water situation again.
